General

Sometimes.  But we're experimenting with models that invest TruCorps members in the success of others.  Whether it's bringing a job that someone here can fill or bringing a candidate to fill a job, we want the TruCorps community to benefit from helping us all grow.

Green as green can be.   Since 1998, in their previous work environments, many of the advisors and staffers associated with TruCorps have toiled exclusively by way of "virtual offices."   It is our goal to maintain this anti-bricks-and-sticks infrastructure for as long as humanly possible - no huge energy-guzzling office building seems the essence of green.  Since inception, we have limited 95% of our communications to the web and the telephone - little or no paper waste.  The same goes for billing, compensation and accounting.   Is there more we can learn - more we can do?  Undoubtedly.  But you won't find a smaller carbon foot print in our world.

Nurses?  Teachers?  Community organizers?  Despite distinct skills, talents, levels of education and experience, we are convinced that you all belong here - and that we're obligated to serve you - simply because you do something that serves your community, your neighbors - our world.   For us, that's enough to build a support infrastructure around.  If TruCorps can help you do your work better, live your life easier, aspire to something greater -- then we're on the right track.  Join us.

Our name derives from "altruism" ("Tru") and collective effort ("Corps").  For us, work that centers on the betterment of others - in traditional and non-traditional ways - is what matters.   Naturally, the work we do to support our families, put food on the table, provide shelter - is vitally important.  And there are, or should be, many venues and tools to find, support or create jobs that meet our basic needs. We're focused on providing services to those that seek, have or provide work that has altruism at its core.

Time may tell that a euphemistic term is useless here.  But our goal is to go beyond traditional category names in order to visualize work differently - perhaps more expansively.  At minimum, we want you here because you want to "do" something - or create opportunities for others to "do".   These spheres are verbs for a reason. Passivity doesn't satisfy.  How can we matter if we're not doing something?

Job Providers

During the 2.0 beta phase, job-postings are by invitation only and no charge for basic postings. Learn more on the Job Posting page

During our Beta 2.0 phase, jobs listed here are those that have been aggregated as samples of entities providing "work that matters."  We have not solicited payment for these listings and, during this phase, no employer has specifically requested a listing here.  We notify each employer regarding a listing and immdiately take down the job if there are any objections.  You are instructed to apply per the detail in the listing.  None of the listing content has been altered from its original form - though fonts may be adjusted to provide for easier viewing.  While our system will not bar you from applying for this job through our system, during the 2.0 phase such an application will be forwarded to the employer and not stored here.

Services and Support

More than 20 million working Americans have no bank account -- leaving them at the mercy
of the legalized loan-sharking of the predatory check-cashing industry. And plenty of folks like
us -- doing work that matters -- are subjected to less-than-fair banking and debit card practices.

Even with a bank account, we tend to be at the mercy of hidden or escalating "fees" that simply
make big banks richer -- while eating away at our income.

Whether doing work that matters locally or on the road, short or long term, part-time or full, the TruCorps Compensation Card is intended exclusively to help TruCorps staffers, members and friends.

The TC Card is not a general debit card with unfair bank fees attached. It is a "portable" FDIC-insured bank account.

It can be used wherever VISA cards are accepted.  You can also use this card as a direct deposit account with any future employer.

For payments from TruCorps, based on our experience, especially for short-term or travel assignments and for payment of Referral Grants, we know the Card is the easiest and fastest way to get you the money you need to keep doing work that matters.

The basic terms of the card are below.  Compare them with any general debit card.
