Alan Moniz, 59-years-old, was laid off from his factory job and unlike his other co-workers who were also laid off, decided he wanted to go back to school to get his occupational therapy degree so he could help the elderly. He helps people recover from surgeries and accidents so they can get back to doing their daily activities. Moniz feels like this work is more fulfilling than working in a factory and goes home everyday feeling like he’s made someone’s life better. Moniz chose to do this because he is a cancer survivor, wanted to help other people, and knew that there are a lot of jobs in the health industry.
